In this section, we continue to work with parabolas. Here we will focus on methods to find the vertex, when our quadratic equation is not in vertex form. We can take any quadratic equation written in standard form, and easily convert it into vertex form. This can be accomplished by completing the square. Once we perform this task a few times, we will present an alternative formula known as the vertex formula. The vertex formula makes it very fast to find the vertex when a quadratic equation is in standard form. We will then move on to discuss intercepts for a quadratic equation. We can use the discriminant, or the part of the quadratic formula that is under the square root symbol to determine how many x intercepts will occur. Lastly, we will put all of the information on parabolas together, and develop a strategy to quickly graph parabolas.
