Dividing Polynomials by Monomials

About:
Additional Resources:

In this section, we learn how to divide a polynomial by a monomial (polynomial with one term only). Although dividing polynomials is a pretty tedious process, dividing by a monomial is the easiest scenario. Recall that division can be written using a fraction bar. We also need to recall that two fractions added together with the same denominator can be combined as the sum of the numerators over the common denominator. In order to divide a polynomial by a monomial, we begin by writing the problem using a fraction bar. Once this is done, we can take each term of the numerator and place it over the common denominator. We do this, so that we can divide each term of the numerator by the monomial.
