In this section, we introduce the concept of fractions. We learn how to properly label the parts of a fraction as: the numerator (top), the fraction bar (middle), and the denominator (bottom). We also learn how to determine whether we have a proper fraction, improper fraction, or mixed number. Lastly, we dig in and discuss the meaning and usefulness of a fraction. As an example, suppose we have a pizza that is split up into eight equal slices. If you were to eat three slices out of the eight, you have consumed three - eighths of the pizza (three pieces out of eight equal pieces) and five - eighths (five pieces out of eight equal pieces) of the pizza will remain.
