GreeneMath.com - Subtracting Whole Numbers using a Number Line Lesson

# In this Section:

In this section, we review the basic operation of subtraction. We will learn how to label the parts of a subtraction problem as subtrahend, minuend, and difference. We will then move into subtracting whole numbers using a number line. This will give us a visual representation of the subtraction operation, and give us a jump start on operations with integers. When we subtract two whole numbers on a number line, we start out on the number line at the left most number of the subtraction problem. We then move left on the number line by the number of units being subtracted away.
