Dividing Polynomials
About:
Additional Resources:
In this lesson, we will learn how to divide polynomials. The simplest case is dividing a polynomial by a monomial. In this situation, we will divide each term of the polynomial by the monomial. Next, we will move into polynomial long division. This process is very similar to long division with whole numbers. We will use the DMSBR process, which stands for: divide, multiply, subtract, bring down, and repeat or remainder. Lastly, we will move into dividing polynomials when there are missing powers on the variable. For this situation, we will turn to 0 to act as a placeholder for any missing terms. This means we will write our polynomial with 0 as the coefficient for any missing variable power and proceed with our division normally.
