Introduction to Series

In this lesson, we will learn about series. In the last lesson, we learned about sequences, which are just functions that compute an ordered list. A series is just the sum of a sequence. Our goal for the lesson will be to get familiar with series. We will learn how to write sums using the summation or sigma (Σ) notation. This sigma notation will include an index of summation as well as an upper and lower limit. We will also look at some properties and rules of summation that will make our work in this section much quicker. By the end of the lesson, you will be comfortable with evaluating finite series and understand the basic structure of infinite series. You will also know how and when to apply these rules and properties to quickly evaluate series.
