Fraction to Decimal

In this section, we will learn how to change a non-decimal fraction into a decimal. We begin the process by dividing the numerator by the denominator using our long division format. We will place a visible decimal point at the end of our dividend. We then drag this decimal point straight up into the answer. We divide as we normally do, but now we are able to continue past the point of a remainder. Recall that we can add as many zeros after the decimal point and not change the value of the divided. We can, therefore, continue to bring down zeros to continue our division. We keep this process going until we get a zero remainder or a pattern that repeats forever. When we have a pattern that repeats forever, we notate this by placing a bar over the digit or series of digits that continuously repeat.
