Dividing Decimals

In this section, we will learn about another basic operation with decimals: dividing decimals. How do we Divide Decimals? We begin with the least complicated scenario, which is to divide a decimal by a whole number. In this case, we simply set up a long division and place the decimal point immediately above the long division symbol. This will be its place in our answer. We can then divide as we normally do. The second scenario involves dividing by a decimal. In this case, we must move our decimal point to the right in the divisor by enough places to make it into a whole number. We must also match this movement in our dividend as well. Once this is done, drag the decimal point up above the long division symbol. This will be its place in our answer. We can then divide as we normally do. Lastly, we will discuss what to do when we get a repeating decimal or a decimal that repeats the same number or pattern of numbers forever.
