The Order of Operations (PEMDAS):

  1. If fractions are present with operations in either the numerator, denominator, or both:
    • Work separately above (numerator) and below (denominator) any fraction bar
  2. Work inside of any grouping symbols that contain operations:
    • Parentheses ()
    • Brackets []
    • Absolute Value Bars ||
  3. Evaluate all exponent, radical, and absolute value operations
  4. Multiply or Divide working from left to right:
    • The M and D steps have the same priority level; the operations are done in the order in which they appear, working from left to right
